This season the new football shirt at Howard of Effingham School has been sponsored by Securus and the team have played some fantastic matches.
The Year 7 team have had an excellent first season making it into two finals in their first year together. With over 60 boys attending training throughout the season, it has been a fantastic opportunity for the boys to be selected to represent their school.
The boys competed well in the District League against other local schools, winning 2 and drawing another; scoring 12 goals along the way while only conceding 4.
One of their best performances came in a game that saw them trail 3-1 at half time, but come out eventual winners 8-3 after some excellent team play and individual brilliance, seeing them into the District Final to play against local rivals George Abbot School.
The boys have also been competing in the County Cup since September and have come up against some tough opposition along the way.
After 5 rounds and 18 goals scored with only 8 conceded, the boys made it into the County Cup final – the first time for The Howard of Effingham in over 10 years.
This was another local derby, with the final being played against St Johns School Leatherhead. It was a very exciting occasion for the boys and both teams played some excellent football during the match. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be this year and we came away as runners up in the U12 Therfield Trophy to a strong St Johns side.
